Would be nice to have a separate screen to set weights for each class and distance. Program would then use correct class screen & distance to handicap each race. We are working with about 3 seconds between the best and worse dog speed wise at most tracks.

Yes, I agree with this very much. Each distance is different and each grade/class is different also. But, adding separate handicapping weights for each class would probably, I suspect, complicate the setting of handicapping weights for most users. Here is one approach to adding this feature: 1) Phase 1: I add a function that allows saving and loading of specific handicapping weights. Then the user could load the weights when appropriate. For example you could save a set of weights as "Phoenix Class C 660" and then manually load those weights when a Class C, 660 yard race is being handicapped. This would make it a manual process initially. 2) Phase 2: Automate the selection of specific weights for specific situations by adding another form that would allow you to assign certain saved weights to certain track situations. Using the example from 1, then it would automatically load the weights set when a Class C, 660 yard race is being handicapped. This is just one approach and I would welcome input on a better, more user-friendly approach as this seems a bit complicated from a user perspective.

Scott, I agree with Wes. Being able to add weights for each race class and distance would be an excellent feature. If you could create a separate weight form for EACH Class that would work. Right now GM has ONE weight form page for a sprint and a route distance, and then that set of weights (default or manually entered) is applied across all races on the program.
How about making the weights as a feature of the class you select? i.e. at the Class pull down tab, when the user selects the class, AA A B C D E M, then a weight form option is brought up to allow you to enter your weights for the sprint and route race for that class, or use the default? Then we should be able to SAVE that weight form with that class. When we select the next class, we enter the new weights for that one; and so on for all the classes on the program for that day.
The good news is once we have entered and saved our weights, we will not have to re-enter for the next day's program. All we need to do is have GM use those weights , (instead of the defaults) and run those against the races. That way we could also print a Tip-Sheet that would be using our weights for all the races instead of the default weights, that we could take to the track or use as a Summary of our own selections for today's race.
Sorry if I sound like I'm talking down to you guys. I'm just "thinking as I write this".

Hello Scott, We have a good product right not. If you add the above into making this program it be complicated and DOES NOT need it. If you will go into the weight and work with them you will have a good program. I won a handicapping contest the other day using this program.
When you start into GRADES and TIMES your splitting hairs and that will kill a good program.

The next version will come with the ability to save and open a set of weights in the 'Set Weight' form. While it won't automatically assign the weights to a specific race based upon class or other criteria, you will have the ability to load a saved set of weights. Look for it in version 2.8.

I have backtested separately for each class and distance. For Palm Beach that means having a distinct set of weights for A,B,C,D, J, M @ 5xx and A,B,C,D @6xx, 10 total. The problem is having to either print five separate pick sheets (only five because both distances have an input in the custom weights section...I assume pick sheets run using custom weights differentiate 5xx vs 6xx races), each carefully identified as to grade and distance, or print one sheet to I.D. the class and distance for each race and then write over the picks for the grade/distance of each race. Both alternative require entering the correct weights to the custom screen 10 times each day. Ideally, having user selectable custom weight screens. say five, that could be checked to use, that would automatically relate to each race on the program would be great. That way only one pick sheet would need be printed each day, but the user would have to be careful to assure each grade was properly entered and checked.
Alternatively, having five, or more, custom weight screens that could be named and saved would save the time of having to enter for each class and distance each day.

You would only need six sets of weights for PB. A, B, C, D, J, M. You can enter both 5xx and 6xx on the weight from as GM already distinguishes between races shorter than 599 yards and those longer than 599 yards and assigns the appropriate weight. It looks like I will have the custom weights by grade and automatically assigned available by next release. Plus, I am adding other neat features (including a graph of a dog's past racing times, which provides some very interesting information) which will come out in about a week.
